Custom New Tab — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Custom New Tab replaces Chrome's New Tab page with a dashboard of your website shortcuts, a clock, a search box and a weather forecast. The developer does not run any servers and does not collect, receive, sell or share any of your data.
Data stored by the extension
Everything you set up is kept in Chrome's own extension storage:
- Synced through your Chrome profile (only if you use Chrome sync): your sites, categories and settings, including the city you choose for the weather.
- Kept on this computer only: icons you upload, and cached copies of site icons and the latest weather forecast.
You can delete all of it at any time by removing the extension.
Data sent to third-party services
To show its content, the extension makes requests directly from your browser to these services:
| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) | The latitude and longitude of the city you chose, or the city name you type when searching | Weather forecast and city search |
| Google favicon service (google.com, gstatic.com) | The address of each shortcut | Showing site icons |
| Iconify (iconify.design) and Simple Icons (simpleicons.org) | A shortcut's name or domain | Suggesting brand logos |
| Your search engine (Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing or Claude) | What you type in the search box, when you submit it | Running your search |
| The websites in your shortcuts (only if you allow it) | A normal page request | Finding the site's own icons |
These services handle the requests under their own privacy policies. The extension does not send them any other personal information.
